An attorney appointed by the President of the United States to plead the United States governmentÂ’s case in civil and criminal cases in a federal district court. A United States attorney works under the direction of the Attorney General of the United States; each federal judicial district has one United States Attorney, with an office composed of multiple Assistant United States Attorneys.
